Ingredients Overview

Jump to Recipe
  • Banana: 1 medium-to-large ripe banana (or 2 small). Mashed banana provides natural sweetness and creaminess that keeps the popsicles soft enough to bite into.
  • Greek Yogurt: 1 cup of plain or vanilla Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt adds a thick, velvety texture and packs an extra punch of protein.
  • Milk: 1/2 cup of real dairy milk (strawberry milk, chocolate milk, or whole milk work great!).
  • Dry Cereal: 1/2 cup of your favorite breakfast cereal (such as Fruity Pebbles, Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or Cocoa Pebbles).

Tips for Success

Pro Tip for Easy Unmolding: Run warm water over the outside of the popsicle mold for 10–15 seconds to release the pops easily.

Add Extra Crunch: For a layered look, drop a small spoon of dry cereal or granola directly into the bottom of each mold before pouring in the blender mixture. Continue with layers.

Texture: Don’t over-blend once the cereal is added! Folding it in by hand ensures you get distinct, crunchy cereal pieces throughout the pop. Sprinkle a few handfuls of cereal at the base of each popsicle before freezing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get creamy popsicles instead of icy ones? The secret to creamy, soft-freeze popsicles is using Greek yogurt, real dairy milk, and blended fruit. The natural fat and protein in real dairy prevent large ice crystals from forming, while the pectin and sugar in the ripe banana keep the popsicles velvety and easy to bite into rather than rock-hard.

Can I use regular milk instead of flavored milk? Yes! Whole milk, 2% milk, or skim milk all work wonderfully. You can add fresh or frozen strawberries for extra natural sweetness if using unflavored milk.

Can I make these in advance? Absolutely. Once frozen solid, store them right in their molds or transfer them to a freezer-safe Ziploc bag for up to 2 months.

Ingredients

  • 1 large banana, or 2 small
  • 1 Cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 Cup strawberry milk
  • 1/2 Cup dry cereal

Instructions

  • ADD the ripe banana, Greek yogurt, and real dairy milk into your blender. Blend on high speed for 20–30 seconds until completely smooth and creamy.
  • Remove the blender lid or pitcher from the base. ADD the dry cereal and gently stir it into the mixture with a spatula (or replace the lid and shake by hand) so the cereal stays mostly whole for a fun crunch.
  • POUR or spoon the mixture evenly into your favorite popsicle molds. Insert popsicle sticks and freeze for at least 8 hours (or overnight) until completely solid.

Celebrate Dairy this Summer

What’s the difference between Greek yogurt and regular yogurt? Greek yogurt has twice the amount of protein as most regular yogurts, due to the straining process. Six ounces of Greek yogurt typically contains 14–17 grams of protein. Regular yogurt has 7–8 grams of protein in 6 ounces.

Is flavored milk healthy for my family? Flavored milk provides the same powerful package of 9 essential nutrients as white milk, and kids will drink more when it’s flavored! Studies show that children who drink flavored milk meet more of their nutrient needs; do not consume more added sugar, fat or calories; and are not heavier than non-milk drinkers. See how flavored milk stacks up to other beverages, such as juice and sports drinks.

As much as I love my iced coffee in the summertime, my kids love fruity popsicles. They are our summer go-to dessert around here. I have dozens of popsicle molds in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Because we make them homemade, I have no problem letting my kids enjoy them all summer long. These Milk and Cereal Breakfast Popsicles are truly made to be enjoyed even when you just get out of bed. Go ahead and send the kids outside with a popsicle this morning while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee in peace!
