Super Bowl Sundaes
Turn a waffle bowl into a sweet football stadium for snacking! These super bowl sundaes can be made before the party and dished up as guests arrive.
I’m crazy. I know this about myself and I’m okay with it. Thankfully my husband is crazy too so we’re on the same page. Right now our kids think we are hilarious and fun and they enjoy goofing off with us. Oh children, just wait.
We will be the parents who bring hand-painted signs to your sporting events and start The Wave in the crowd.
We will be the parents who pick you up from school with the sounds of ABBA pouring out from the minivan.
And I, your mother whom you love and adore, will squeal with delight as I bring out Super Bowl Sundaes to your teenage friends and I will ask each one of them if they have ever seen anything so cute. And do they want to hear in great detail how I made them?
Thankfully I have my happy little sugar place here in blogland where I can talk to pretend internet people about things like how I make cupcakes, and frost cookies, and turn waffle bowls into football stadiums.
First you’re going to want to make some Royal Icing. You can use my Favorite Royal Icing Recipe. Don’t be scared of Royal Icing; it’s not only for royalty. It’s for us normal non-royal people who want to use something edible to glue gingerbread houses together. Think of it as Gingerbread House Icing if that helps. If you’re not into royal icing, you can try melted chocolate. It will take less time to harden, but it may be more tricky to get clean, fine lines for the stadium.
Pipe the lines for your stadium and let dry 1-2 hours. You can use an edible food marker to draw lines first if you need a guide. Fill your sections with thinned out “flood” Royal Icing then get your sprinkle on. Repeat. I did one half of my waffle bowls and propped them up on the side of a plastic bowl to dry for an hour before I did the second half. I’m not sure if this step would be entirely necessary if you took care not to not overfill the sections with the flood icing. Let dry overnight.
When I scooped out my mint chocolate chip ice cream I flattened it, piped a quick frosting field, and added jumbo nonpareil sprinkles for football players. If you aren’t crazy like I am you could just throw some chocolate chips or teddy grahams on top for the same effect. Or just leave it plain. Do whatever you want basically.
Either way you can still pin people down and tell them all about how you turned waffle bowls into football stadiums and be the coolest mom on the block. **COOLEST** Get it?
Oh my poor children.
Super Bowl Sundaes Recipe
Ingredients
- Royal Icing, grey and white
- Nonperiel sprinkles
- 4 Waffle bowls
- 2 Cups Mint chocolate chip ice cream
- Sprinkles, Jumbo nonpareil (or chocolate chips/teddy grahams)
Instructions
- Pipe the lines for your stadium in the waffle bowls and let dry 1-2 hours. You can use an edible food marker to draw lines first if you need a guide.
- Fill your sections with thinned out "flood" Royal Icing then add sprinkles. Repeat. I did one half of my waffle bowls and propped them up on the side of a plastic bowl to dry for an hour before I did the second half. I'm not sure if this step would be entirely necessary if you took care not to not overfill the sections with the flood icing. Let dry 5 hours or overnight.
- When ready to serve scoop out mint chocolate chip ice cream and flatten it slightly.
- Using leftover white frosting pipe a field, and add jumbo nonpareil sprinkles for football players or throw some chocolate chips or teddy grahams on top for the same effect. Or just leave it plain.
