Outside Katrina’s Kitchen: Summer Fun
Thanks to the Ohio Poultry Association for sending us to the Ohio State Fair! We had an EGGcelent time!
I am a bad blogger. Bad bad blogger. Well, I’m a bad summer blogger. I just can’t help it- I have 2 little guys who love to be outside soaking up the sun. We’ve eaten festival food and ridden lots of ferris wheels. We’ve soaked up the sun on the shores of Virginia Beach with some dear friends who spoiled our kids and gave them a taste of beach life. We watched rats play basketball and made robots disco dance at COSI. We groomed goats and were spit on by animatronic dinosaurs at the Columbus Zoo. Add in lots of swimming, overnight trips to Grandma’s, celebrating the college graduation of the boys’ favorite aunt ;), and a little {big} behind-the-scenes project that I’m working on I just haven’t had time to drop by here and bake for you. I promise lots of deliciousness coming your way so stick with me!
Recently I was contacted to participate in a special press event set up by the Ohio Poultry Association. If you get an email asking if you want to spend a day at the Ohio State Fair with your whole family and let your kids get up close and personal with the chickens and some of the farmers that take care of them you should say yes! My boys met all sorts of chickens, ducks, and turkeys and watched with wonder as a baby chick hatched right before their eyes.
After being schooled on how to make the perfect omelette (our trusty Jim swears by adding water not milk or cream) and filling our tummies with farm fresh eggs we were off to experience the rides and games of the Ohio State Fair. My boys and niece rode all day long and I came home with an injured tailbone. From a SLIDE of all things. No comments about that. One week later and I still can’t even stand up from a seated position without pain. I’m an old lady.
Of course we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit our friends at The American Dairy Association Mideast and give the cows some love. They treated us to ice cream as we admired the famous Butter Cow and her calf. BUTTER COW! It was a sight to behold for sure. MMmmmMMMm butter. {{You can read about my fun Ohio Dairy Adventure last fall here.}}
I hope you are having a fun summer as well! What are you up to?
Before I go I just wanted to let you know about a few Pinterest Boards that I’m honored to be a part of. Don’t miss these delicious collections!

You have been a busy girl this summer! I am sure your boys are having a blast, and that is what matters!
Oh how fun!! Glad you are enjoying your summer! xoxo
I love the Ohio State Fair! I enter my baking every year, and this year won 2 blue ribbons! Glad your family had so much fun. (Did you get to try the maple bacon ice cream? They were sold out when I went!) And its awesome to know you’re hanging out in my neck of the woods this summer. OH Bloggers unite!
What great pictures of the day at the fair! It was nice to see you there, though we barely talked because the fair is so full of distractions.
Can you tell me what you used to create the collages? They’re totally cute!
Looks like you all are having a fun, fun summer!!! I’ve definitely cut back on blogging over the last few months to get in some quality family time. Who knew blogging about desserts could take up so much time?!? 😉
Butter Cow. Awesome.
I want to hear more about this little project!!!
So nice to read up and catch up with you, Katrina! Hope you and your fam enjoy the rest of your summer, too. It’s flying by at warp speed! xo
OMG so much fun!!
I actually am going to be moving back to Ohio sometime in the next 6-12 months, so if you have any info you could share with me being an Ohio blogger I’d love to pick your brain!!
