5 Minute Fancy Frosting

5 Minute Fancy Frosting Tutorial from @KatrinasKitchen

I’ll just say it- I prefer to make homemade frosting. But I always have a can or 2 on hand for emergencies. I have been known to run out of powdered sugar, {gasp} and then what’s a girl to do?! Here’s the thing- I don’t feel guilty about it- and neither should you. Through the years I have learned a few tricks to make canned frosting look pretty fancy and FAST.

I used to spoon my frosting into a piping bag fitted with a 1M cake decorating tip. If you want to up the fancy factor you can put different colors into the bag and pipe as usual. I recently saw this tutorial from Callye of The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle about a no-mess way to pipe Royal Icing. I thought that this would be a super-easy way to pipe beautiful swirls onto cupcakes.

Let’s please ignore the fact that the following pictures are the most unappetizing pictures of frosting that were ever posted on any blog anywhere. Here’s what you do:

It only take 5 minutes to turn out fancy swirls of frosting onto cupcakes and cakes

Ingredients:

  • Frosting (2 or more colors)
  • Plastic wrap
  • Piping bag

Directions:

  1. Color your frosting 2 (3, 4, etc.) different colors.
  2. Lay out a piece of plastic wrap or a Ziplock baggie cut open and spread wide.
  3. Spoon your frosting into long strips.
  4. Wrap up the frosting, thread through a piping bag fitted with a coupler.
  5. Cut off the excess plastic and insert a decorating tip.
  6. Pipe onto cupcakes or cake!

PS: These cute little cakes were turned into Camo Cupcakes for my baby brother.  But don’t call them cute, and don’t call him a baby because he is a teenager and he would despise you if you called him that. Happy birthday, Chris!  The army men are Toy Story 3 gummies that I got at Wal-Mart ;)

Thank you for this tip! SOOO much better than wasting extra piping bags that just go inside another one!
